Houston flights: Experts tell travelers plan arrival to Bush Airport hours earlier than expected to battle construction, traffic

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You can add a massive construction project to the list of traveling hassles through canceled flights, long wait times, and lost bags in Houston.

It’s been a painful summer for air travelers, and now, the head of the Houston Airport System is admitting to our ABC13 partner, The Houston Chronicle, that airport problems caught even him off guard.

Analysts predicted that air travel wouldn’t be back in full swing until 2024 or 2025 since the pandemic hit in 2020.

But, the Houston Airport System head told the Houston Chronicle that domestic, European, and Latin American travel is almost back to normal at Houston airports.

Drag race turns into police chase with vehicle traveling 150 mph, police say

GRAND BLANC TWP., MI – A 23-year-old Flint man has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase while driving nearly 150 miles per hour, according to Grand Blanc Township police.

Authorities said a police officer spotted two vehicles drag racing on northbound I-475 late Wednesday, Aug. 17.

The vehicles were estimated to be traveling at more than 100 mph, police said.

When the officer tried to pull over the drivers, one of them, driving a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, fled from the area at nearly 150 mph.

Trooper 3, the Michigan State Police helicopter, was called to assist officers in pursuing the vehicle and tracked the Hellcat as it drove through Flint. When the vehicle came to a stop, officers converged on it and took the driver into custody.

San Antonio couple dies in head-on crash while traveling to Port Aransas

Officials believe alcohol played a factor in the crash; the driver of the other car has been charged.

SAN ANTONIO — Two San Antonians died in a car crash after a head-on collision this past weekend, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The incident occurred along the 7500 block of Highway 361, near Port Aransas, around midnight last Saturday night.

Police say a male driver, 24-year-old Dylan Holland, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup in the wrong direction when he collided with a Lexus sedan traveling north toward Port Aransas. Juan Segundo, 44, was behind the wheel of the Lexus with his wife, 42-year-old Angela Segundo, in the passenger seat.

Both died in the crash, according to police.

Holland, henceforth, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials believe alcohol played a factor in the crash, and Holland was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
