Traveling symphonic orchestras strike a tune with audiences

SAN ANTONIO – Professional and pro-level symphonic orchestras are gaining momentum as they travel to reach audiences beyond traditional music halls.

Five years ago, Ronnie Sanders got the idea of having high-caliber musicians come together to form an orchestra and play for audiences for free.

“Would anybody show up? And they did,” Sanders said to his surprise.

He has about 70 members who audition for the part. They travel to different auditoriums in the city and area as part of the South Texas Symphonic Orchestra.

“Most of our concerts are absolutely free. We want anybody who wants to hear an orchestra to come without any problem with ticket prices,” Sanders said.

The orchestra is on donations and fundraisers for support.

“It’s different when you’re playing with two or three people and then 70 people,” Sanders said.

Cities remain a go-to. So do tropical places like the Caribbean and Cancun.

In 2020, travelers avoided urban centers for beach towns and national parks, where it felt like a safer place to go, said Brian Hoyt of TripAdvisor.

But by last fall, Las Vegas, New York City, and Orlando had supplanted places like Key Largo, Key West and Atlantic City, which were the top three destinations for travelers in fall 2020, according to TripAdvisor.

The trend is continuing: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver, Orlando and New York are the five most booked destinations in the United States for fall, according to Hopper, a travel booking site. For international travelers, cities like San Juan, Puerto

Traveling nurses poised to fill in if Minnesota nurses strike

While the pay can vary by region, recruiting agencies say traveling nurses can make $80 an hour or more.

ST PAUL, Min. — The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) says there are no formal talks scheduled with hospital leaders this weekend as negotiations continue in an effort to avert a strike.

The 15,000-member union voted this week to authorize a strike, but its leaders are still in discussions about when and if to call one at all. If they do, the union says it would be one of the largest in US history.

In that case, so-called rapid response agencies that retain strike nurses will be available to travel at a moment’s notice and are paid well for their time.

The MNA says it’s negotiating for better pay and working conditions.

“Our patients are sicker and more complex and our nurses are taking care of more of them at one time

What Happens When You Test Positive for COVID Before a Disney Cruise

  • My sister and I were supposed to sail on the new Disney Wish cruise ship in July.
  • But when we got to the port, my sister tested positive for COVID-19 and Disney turned us away.
  • We then received a cruise credit to rebook and were sent to the airport via a Disney shuttle.

I’ve been anticipating my first cruise vacation since the start of this year.

In January, I scheduled a three-day trip on Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Wish, for one of its earliest voyages in June. I invited my sister to join, and we started counting down the days until our sailing.

But one month later, Disney announced it was delaying its initial trips because the ship’s construction was not complete. Though we were disappointed, we were able to rebook our standard, inside stateroom for a sailing in July with a 50% off discount,

Traveling with pets for the first time? Here’s what you need to know.

More than 23 million American households – almost 1 in 5 nationwide – adopted a pet during the pandemic. And now, many of those Americans will try to take their first vacation with a cat, dog, or bird.

Are you ready?

Traveling with pets is one of the most controversial topics I’ve ever covered. From fake emotional support animals to annoying owners, the fur always flies when I write about animals and travel.

But it’s a fair question: What happens when you try to take all those pandemic pets on vacation with you? Should you even bother? And if you do, what should you know?

Taking a road trip with your fur children? Make sure you bring documentation of their vaccination history and other health information. You can ask your veterinarian to email you PDFs that you can store on your phone.

“Travel with pets has become more difficult after the pandemic,” says Josh Snead, CEO of Rainwalk Pet Insurance.

The Travels Of Jesse Chavez

I could probably list every job I had since college if I was pressed to do so, although I mostly remember them in episodic moments, and not especially well at that. There are by now a couple of impacted decades of memories to go through—whole years of variously grim lunches and emptied-out hungover commutes and different rote tasks carried out in windowless rooms on sunny days—broken up periodically by periods of unemployment in which I wrote exceedingly mannered short stories and watched horror movies in the afternoon. I could tell you about many of those lunches and commutes and tasks, but I couldn’t really say—could never, really, have said—how or why I wound up at one job or another. That wasn’t really how my life went, in work or most anywhere else, for most of that time. I floated along until I snagged on to something, and stayed stuck there

Traveling to a Restaurant With a Perfect Rating on Doordash

A running list of everwhere I’ve been, week 28: 270. Grand Army 271. Nathan’s (the cart outside Atlantic Terminal) 272. Blueprint Bar 273. Yellow Rose 274. The HiHi Room 275. Brooklyn Pizza Market 276. Kimpanadas 277. Golden Palace 278. Kingston Tropical Bakery 279. Your Jerk Yard 280. Greek Xpress 281. Fort Defiance 282. Shinn East 283. PDT

Nothing is guaranteed in this life, not even a restaurant with an 4.9 average rating on DoorDash. But it was that stellar score on an otherwise nondescript jerk-chicken spot that pulled me out of my Brooklyn neighborhood to what is almost the very top of the subway map, 225th Street in the Bronx.

actually, Your Jerk Yard was going to be my second
